Yesterday, I spent the whole day logging and double checking our over 130 investigations and audio files. Little did I know over a year ago where this was leading to or what fun I would have along the way. The history I have learned on our adventures is staggering. I have heard things I cannot explain, but I am still not a one hundred percent believer in the paranormal. A rational side of me will not perish. I have grown to appreciate life a great deal more and I never fail to remember the dead in my prayers. What is it I am trying to achieve? I am not quite sure. I believe the dead have a voice and we honor them by listening. I have heard soldiers, duelers, pirates, crewmen, patriots, killers, victims, children, animals, and travelers. I have been wished “happy birthday”, laughed at, growled at, cursed at, warned, and thanked. I know I have been told information that only the dead could know. I have heard their names, how they died, where they died, what battles they fought in, who their commanders once were, and their rank. I have heard them whistling and pleading for help. On many occasions, they have requested that their pictures be taken. If only I had heard their request before I discovered it on a digital recording, I shudder to think of what evidence we would have procured. One spirit even asked us if our camera was on. They have addressed us by our names. They have warned us, corrected us, advised us, and asked us to remember them. I have listened to a victim accuse their killer and a patriot tell us he was betrayed. They have asked us for our license and told us we were going to be arrested. We have heard them argue with each other. One called my wife beautiful and another wanted her in bed. A spirit on a battleship informed us that he came for reinforcement. Also, a voice warned us not to take a tour with a group. I will never forget the spirit that argued that we were not going to find a symbol on Google. A few EVPs have been confirmed after the investigation. For example, a captain’s name was heard on a battlefield and later confirmed by death roll. Also, another poor soul told us how he died and his relative validated the information. We have heard them happy, sad, and angry just like they were living. So many names from so many times and places. Although no longer alive, they seem to continue to talk, feel, remember, and relive. I hope that by listening we have honored them and given them some peace. I do not know what the future holds, but I look forward to more adventures. I do not know exactly what all this means or where it fits into our existence, but I know the dead have a voice and we will continue to listen.
